A CROSS-country cyclist who had four mountain bikes worth around GBP 12,000 stolen from his garage faces footing the bill as he was unable to insure the property.
The 54-year-old history teacher was left devastated after thieves broke into his garage in Carrick Knowe Drive in Corstorphine.
After picking the garage lock, they made off with four bikes, although a GBP 3,000 model was found nearby after it suffered a puncture and was dumped.
The victim, who asked not to be named, said: “I’ve never owned a car so that I would have the money to spend on the bikes instead.
“They are all unique and built to my own specifications. Unless the thieves are knowledgeable about mountain bikes, I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t realise their value and sold them for GBP 50 each or something. I couldn’t get insurance as they were so expensive.”
The bikes were stolen between 19 and 29 August.
