Monday, August 31st, 2009Philadelphia Inquirer, The, September, 2008 by Joseph A. Slobodzian Inquirer Staff Writer
A friend of murder suspect Eric Smith’s described yesterday how he watched – and then fled – last summer when Smith hid in bushes and gunned down Luis Navarro Jr., who was riding his dirt bike along a woodland path in Tacony Creek Park. “I was scared by the shot,” Terrence Washington, 17, told the Common Pleas Court jury hearing Smith’s trial.
“I couldn’t believe he did it, but he shot him.” Washington was the only one with Smith when Smith shot Navarro, 16, authorities say. Two other friends testified yesterday that Smith asked them to help him hide the victim’s new, $3,000 green-and-white Kawasaki FX85 dirt bike and told them he shot Navarro to take it

CAVAN 0-13
FERMANAGH 1-9
SEANIE JOHNSTON played through the pain barrier to secure a famous Ulster quarter-final SFC victory for Cavan.
The injured corner-forward hit five points including a late insurance score to book their semi-final place against Donegal or Antrim.
Fermanagh’s old failings of missed chances and missed frees in particular came back to haunt them at Breffni Park.
But Cavan weren’t lucky winners by any means, and Johnston’s spirit summed up their character-laden win
Are PDAs Too Expensive?
Sunday, August 30th, 2009Light & Medium Truck, Apr 2008
The luxury of working from a handheld computer while on the go may save you time and hassle, but it’s giving someone else a headache.
The Computing Technology Industry Association, or CompTIA, says that information technology departments are spending much more time and money supporting personal digital assistants, or PDAs, than any other office technology. In fact, IT professionals have reported investing 30 times more energy and money to support the BlackBerry smart phone than laptop computers.
“People want to be mobile and want the same access in their hand to applications and data that they would have at their desks,” said CompTIA spokesman Steven Ostrowski. “But the BlackBerry and similar devices pose much higher security risks, whether it’s misplacing them or not connecting securely. These are things that people don’t take into consideration as often with PDAs as they do with computers, and it’s become a real challenge that IT departments are wrestling with.”
Connecting mobile devices with network printers and other technology can prove difficult or time-consuming, Ostrowski said. It also can be expensive, as companies often need to update other devices so they are compatible.
Besides personal digital assistants, IT professionals find themselves increasingly investing time to fix or support other handheld devices, including digital music players and cell phones, Ostrowski said

Given Barack Obama’s popularity overseas, it’s not surprising he’s appearing in ads around the world that he doesn’t even know about. In Brazil, household cleanser giant Bombril likes to dress up Carlos Moreno, the anti-dirt spokesman the company has used for 30 years, as newsworthy or historical figures. Last week, Mr. Moreno, who is white and balding, went through a four-hour makeup session to appear as Obama in a magazine ad, giving a presidential wave, with the tagline “If you want a White House too, …
